Last year Sumter Central finished sixth in Class 5A region 4 with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record. Since 2010, Sumter Central has gone a combined 10-40. Their 20.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sumter Central has not won much with a record of 10-40. Their 20.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 5A and 373rd in the AHSAA. The Jaguars are led by head coach Charles Graves who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Sumter Central. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Graves. Coach Graves's overall record as a head football coach in four seasons stands at 10-30 (25.0%). The Jaguars open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Carver Birmingham on Friday, August 19 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Carver Birmingham Rams finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 5A region 5. The ended last season on a positive note with a win over Jackson-Olin by a score of 18-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Sumter Central and Carver Birmingham have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-2-0 record against the Rams.
